Convocation honors
Dr. Martin Luther King
LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2004) - Florida
Southern College will hold a convocation to honor Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. on Jan. 19 at 10:10 a.m. in Branscomb Auditorium.
The program, led by President Thomas Reuschling, begins with an
Invocation by the Reverend Tim Wright, FSC Chaplain. Remarks by
Dr. Claudia Slate, English professor, on "Ordinary People Doing
Extraordinary Things: Little Rock Nine, Greensboro Four, and the
Freedom Riders," will be followed by a musical selection, "Lift
Ev'ry Voice and Sing," by the student Gospel Choir.
Keynote speaker Dr. Craig Bythewood, business professor, will discuss
"The 'Core' of the King Legacy." Benediction will be given by the
Rev. Delano McIntosh, pastor of College Heights United Methodist
Church.
The convocation will be followed by a question-and-answer session
with Slate, Bythewood, McIntosh, and African American Studies faculty
from 11:15 a.m. to 12 noon in the Anne MacGregor Jenkins Recital
Hall (Branscomb 202).
