Florida Southern
presents 17th annual
"Child of the Sun" Jazz Festival
LAKELAND, Fla. (March
15, 2003) - Florida Southern College presents the 17th annual "Child
of the Sun" Jazz Festival March 27 beginning at 3 p.m. The outdoor
event features several jazz ensembles performing throughout the
afternoon and evening at the Wall Plaza on the Florida Southern
campus.
This year's festival pays tribute to the late great Florida jazz
artists Nat Adderley, Manfredo Fest, and Nathen Page. Headliners
include Jimmy Cobb's Mob, featuring drummer Jimmy Cobb; and the
Bossa Nova band Soul Braziliero, featuring Rob Bargad, formerly
with Nat Adderley, Maucha Adnet (vocals), Dudka Fonseca (drums),
Leonard Cioglia (bass), and Café (percussion). The performances
are scheduled as follows:
3:00 p.m. - FSC Jazz Ensemble
4:15 p.m. - Freetime, celebrating its 10th anniversary at the Festival
5:30 p.m. - Jimmy Cobb's Mob with special guest Eric Alexander
6:45 p.m. - Soul Braziliero with Maucha Adnet, Duduka Da Fonseca,
and Cafe
8:00 p.m. - Nat Adderley Reunion Band
Admission is free and festival attendees are encouraged to bring
blankets and lawn chairs for the events. Rain cover: Branscomb Auditorium.
