FSC students selected
for
Dow Jones internships
LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2004) - Florida
Southern College seniors Rita Florez and Kim Olson have been selected
as Dow Jones Newspaper Fund (DJNF) editing interns for summer 2004.
Both communication majors serve on the editorial staff of the college
newspaper.
DJNF offers annual summer internships in business reporting, real-time
financial newswires, online editing, news copy editing and sports
copy editing. Each program provides free pre-internship training
seminars on college campuses and weekly salaries starting at $325
for a minimum of 10 weeks. Interns who return to college full-time
the following fall will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Fund.
Florez will train in the Northeast program held at Temple University,
Philadelphia, and will work at the Hartford Courant, America's oldest
newspaper. Florez is the daughter of Eduardo Florez of Lakeland
and Cindy Florez of Miami.
Olson was selected for the Knight-Ridder Newspaper program at the
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and will intern at the
Tallahassee Democrat. Olson is the daughter of Gary Olson of Lake
St. Louis, Mo.
