Florida Southern
College presents
exhibition of artist Michael Aurbach
LAKELAND, Fla. (Aug. 30, 2002) - Florida Southern College will present
sculptor Michael Aurbach's "The Administrator" exhibit in the Melvin
Art Gallery beginning Sept. 12 and running through Oct. 3. The artist
will attend the opening reception held on Sept. 12 from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m.
Aurbach, a professor of art at Vanderbilt University, is a nationally
renowned sculptor whose work is shown throughout the country and
appears regularly in national and international art publications.
"The Administrator" is part of his Secrecy Series in which he expresses
his concern about the growing use of surveillance and loss of privacy
through technology.
Melanie Taylor, this year's director of the Melvin Gallery, said,
"'The Administrator' installation is a provocative and witty take
on the office of someone 'in charge.' Everyone will recognize the
satire in the captivating steel construction."
The Melvin Art Gallery is open weekdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and
before and during intermissions of most performances of the FSC
Fine Arts Series.
