Florida Southern
presents 16th annual
"Child of the Sun" Jazz Festival
Trio performs the following day
in Branscomb Auditorium
LAKELAND, Fla. (March
17, 2003) - Florida Southern College presents the 16th annual "Child
of the Sun" Jazz Festival March 29 beginning at 2:30 p.m. The outdoor
event features several jazz ensembles performing throughout the
afternoon and evening at the Wall Plaza on the Florida Southern
campus. The following day, jazz-pianist-composer Larry Willis will
perform with the FSC symphony orchestra in Branscomb Auditorium
at 2:30 p.m.
Jazz ensembles include the Buster Cooper Quartet, the John LaPorta
Quintet, the FSC Jazz Ensemble with special guest John LaPorta,
the FSC Faculty Jazz Quartet, and the Larry Willis Trio. The performances
are scheduled as follows:
Saturday, March 29 - Wall Plaza/Roux Library
2:30 p.m. - Buster Cooper Quartet
3:45 p.m. - FSC Jazz Ensemble with special guest John LaPorta
5:00 p.m. - FSC Faculty Jazz Quartet
6:15 p.m. - John LaPorta Quintet
7:30 p.m. - Larry Willis Trio featuring Buster Williams and Ben
Riley
Sunday, March 30-Branscomb Auditorium
2:30 p.m. - Larry Willis Trio with the FSC Symphony Orchestra
Admission is free to both events. Festival attendees are encouraged
to bring blankets and lawn chairs for Saturday's events. Rain cover
