Frank H. Furman, Jr. receives honorary degree at 
Florida Southern College commencement ceremony

LAKELAND, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2002) - Frank H. Furman, chairman and executive officer of Frank H. Furman, Inc., will receive an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree during Florida Southern College's commencement ceremony Dec. 14. 

Furman, a member of Florida Southern's board of trustees for 26 years, is being recognized for his career of service to the community, the United Methodist Church, and Florida Southern College. 

Following graduation from Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., Furman began his business career in insurance in 1949. He founded his own agency in 1962 in Pompano Beach, Fla. The agency has grown to 53 employees serving over 5,000 customers. Furman is a member of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents, and in 1997 received the association's highest recognition when he was honored with the Mitchell Stallings Memorial Award. 

Furman has been active in his community through the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce and on advisory committees for the City of Pompano Beach. He has worked for over 23 years as a member of the board of directors of John Knox Village, a retirement community that has achieved national accreditation and superior ratings from the State of Florida. 

As a member of FSC's board of trustees, Furman has served as chair of the finance committee, chair of the executive committee, and vice chair of the board. During his term as finance chairman from 1994-2000, he participated in a $25 million capital improvement on the campus and was actively involved in the successful $60 million capital campaign.
