chemistry department announces
annual Chemathon results
LAKELAND, Fla.
(April 28, 2003) - Florida Southern College's chemistry department,
in cooperation with the Lakeland Subsection of the American Chemical
Society (ACS), hosted the annual Chemathon on Friday. Sixty-one
high school students from Brevard, Manatee, and Polk counties competed
for prizes, furnished by ACS.
Chemathon is
a written and oral competition among students divided into two categories:
honors chemistry and advanced placement. Local schools included
All Saints Academy, Bartow High School International Baccalaureate
Program, George Jenkins High School, Lakeland Christian School,
and Winter Haven High School.

The ACS Students
Affiliate at FSC assisted in the event giving tours of the college,
and reading questions, keeping scores and timing during the quiz
bowl. Judges for the quiz bowl included members of the biology and
chemistry departments, the USDA laboratory and SunPure.
