FSC Chapter named
Outstanding Best Buddies
LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2002) - Florida Southern College's Chapter
of Best Buddies was awarded the highest honor at Best Buddies International's
Leadership Conference in Houston July 27.
Named an Outstanding Best Buddies Chapter for the second year in
a row, the FSC student group was recognized by the Best Buddies
International Board of Directors for its diligence in enhancing
the lives of people with intellectual disabilities in the Lakeland
community. The FSC Chapter was chosen from more than 700 chapters
nationwide.
Best Buddies, founded in 1989 at Georgetown University, promotes
one-to-one friendships between student volunteers and individuals
with intellectual disabilities. Best Buddies has grown into an international
organization involving over 750 middle school, high school and college
campuses in the United States, Canada, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, Ireland
and Sweden.
