Service to Florida Southern College Award
T. Terrell Sessums has chaired the board since 1993
LAKELAND, Fla.
(March 15, 2002) - Florida Southern College Alumni Association honored
trustee T. Terrell Sessums at its Founders Day convocation today.
Sessums received the Service to Florida Southern College Award given
for outstanding work on behalf of the college.
Sessums, an
attorney for Salem, Saxon & Nielsen, P.A., has served on Florida
Southern's board of directors since 1989. He was a member of the
Florida House of Representatives from 1963-74, serving as speaker
from 1972-74. He is a former member of the Southern Regional Education
Board (1970-74) and the Governor's Citizen's Committee on Education
(1971-73).
Sessums' years
of service have earned him many honorary degrees and awards. He
received honorary Doctor of Law degrees from Florida Southern (1973)
and Flagler College (1988), honorary Doctor of Public Administration
from Rollins College (1974), and honorary Doctor of Humane Letters
from the University of South Florida (1995). In 1993, he was given
the Distinguished Service Award by the Florida Association of Colleges
and Universities. He earned the Francis Asbury Award in 1998 from
the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry for his extraordinary
contributions to the United Methodist ministries in higher education.
He currently serves as the United Methodist Florida Conference Lay
Leader.
