Southern alumnus
receives achievement citation
Charles "Doc" Dockery, Lakeland businessman,
initiated plans for high-speed rail system
LAKELAND, Fla.
(Feb. 28, 2002) - Florida Southern College honors alumnus Charles
"Doc" Dockery, a 1961 graduate, at its Founders Day convocation
March 15 at 10:10 a.m. in Branscomb Auditorium. Dockery will receive
the Alumni Achievement Citation, awarded each year to FSC alumni
for excellence in a profession or endeavor.
Dockery is currently
president of Dockery Management Corporation and Crossroads Insurance
Company, Ltd. He also chairs three other businesses and contributes
his time to at least 15 political, civic, and fraternal organizations.
He is a former editor and publisher of Florida Forum Magazine and
trustee of Florida Tax Watch, a statewide watchdog for citizens'
tax dollars. Dockery brought his plans for a high-speed rail system
into the public forum, using $2.7 million of his own money to promote
the project. He succeeded in getting the issue on the ballot, and
the voters approved the plan.
