Composer
Neal Corwell performs in
Florida Southern's Chamber Series
LAKELAND, Fla.
(March 4, 2002) - Composer Neal Corwell performs on euphonium with
taped accompaniment at Florida Southern's Chamber Series March 17
at 2:30 p.m. in the Anne MacGregor Jenkins Recital Hall on campus.
Currently a
freelance composer and euphonium soloist/clinician, Corwell spent
nine years with the U.S. Army Band and seven years as a teacher.
He has performed as both soloist and composer at several international
music conferences.
Arthur Pranno,
FSC music professor and director of the Chamber Series, says the
concert will be "a one-of-a kind show at a very high artistic
level." Corwell's style has been described as "a unique
blend of 'New Age' spirituality and classical virtuosity."
Corwell, who
has a doctorate in euphonium performance and pedagogy, has been
credited with reviving interest in the euphonium and its music.
The brass wind instrument has the range of a trombone, but has valves,
allowing for better technical capability.
Tickets are
$10 at the door and $5 for non-FSC students. FSC students are admitted
free. For ticket information, please contact the Branscomb Auditorium
box office at (863) 680-4296.
