Academic department awards given
at Florida Southern College

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 17, 2002) - The Florida Southern College Academic Department Awards were announced at Honors Convocation on April 10. The following students received department awards and/or scholarships:

Allen & Company Scholarship - David Brian Kunz, a junior from Winter Haven, Fla. He is the son of Leonard and Theresa Kunz.

Apopka Garden Club Scholarship - Christopher Lockhart, a junior business major from Palmetto, Fla. He is the son of Mary Beth Lockhart.

Banks Medal in Religion - Katherine Michele Adams, a senior religion major. She is the daughter of John and Barbara Adams of Seminole, Fla.

Sam Banks Scholarship - Clayton Amestoy, a sophomore recreational turf management major. He is the son of Richard and Kim Amestoy of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Becker CPA Review - Michael D. Brynjulfson, a senior accounting major residing in Lakeland, Fla.

Herman & Theresa Tieser Baum Scholarship in Biology (2) - Heidi Peterson, a junior biology major and the daughter of William and Arlette Peterson of West Boylston, Mass; and Dalitso Nyalani, a junior and the daughter of Dominic and Dorothy Nyalani of Malawi, Africa.

Betsy Award - Natalie Carrozza, a senior biology major. She is the daughter of Peter Carrozza of Mt. Dora, Fla., and Sherie Carrozza of Tavares, Fla.

Biology Merit Award - Tracy Williams, a senior biology major. She is the daughter of Diane Williams of Philadelphia, Pa.

John J. Brennan Scholarship - Laura Waldo, a junior biology major. She is the daughter of Thomas and Dale Waldo of Orlando, Fla.

T.G. Buckner Medal in Philosophy - Joseph Robert Lackey, a criminology major. He is the son of John and Claire Lackey of Cape Coral, Fla.

Dick Burnette Criminology Award - Abby Johannes, a junior. She is the daughter of Kenlon and Jennifer Johannes of Lakeland, Fla.

Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson Scholarship - Nicole A. Plantz, a junior accounting major. She is the daughter of Norman and Marla Plantz of Wellington, Fla.

Chairman's Award (4) - Kelly Mikula, a senior business major and the daughter of David Mikula and Nicky Shelton of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; Sheri Hypes, a junior business administration major and the daughter of Dean and Charlene Hypes of Auburndale, Fla.; Jack Plating, a senior business major and son of Larry and Barbara Plating of Ft. Washington, Md.; and Anna Kovacich, a business administration major and daughter of Robert and Cheryl Kovacich of Lakeland, Fla.

Robert A. Chapman Sociology Medal - Brittany Maxwell, a junior religion major. She is the daughter of Scott and Linda Maxwell of Orlando, Fla.

Citrus and Chemical Bank Scholarship - Everon C. Chenhall, a sophomore business major. She is the daughter of John and Becky Chenhall of Plant City, Fla.

John W. Cook Medal in Christian Education - William Lyman Jeffries IV, a senior religion and sociology major. He is the son of Mable Jean Jeffries of Lake Wales, Fla.

Crystals International, Inc. Scholarship - Laura N. Hardy, a business major. She is the daughter of Steve Hardy of Valrico, Fla., and Linda McCormick of Lakeland, Fla.

Delta Sigma Pi Brother of the Year - Marjorie R. King, a business administration major. She is the daughter of Dale and Robin King of Kenna, W.Va.

Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key Award (2) - Charleene N. Closshey, a business administration major and the daughter of Charles and Jennifer Closshey of Plant City, Fla.; and Marjorie R. King, a business administration major and the daughter of Dale and Robin King of Kenna, W.Va.

John W. Evans Family Scholarship - Scott Driskell, a senior citrus production major. He is the son of Richey T. Driskell of Wauchula, Fla., and Melanie Lisby of Punta Gorda, Fla.

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year - Mary Katherine Wolfe, a mathematics major. She is the daughter of Richard Wolfe of Bradenton, Fla., and Marianne Boggs of Jacksonville, Fla.

F.I.C.P.A. Scholarship Nominee (2) - Kathryn E. Paight, a senior business administration major and the daughter of Donald and Nina Paight of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Donna Jean Spence, an accounting major and daughter of Don and Ginger Spence of Frostproof, Fla.

Florida Citrus Mutual Outstanding Achievement and Leadership Award - Frank Bagwell, a senior citrus major. He is the son of Frankie and Judy Bagwell of Frostproof, Fla.

Florida Club Scholarship Award - Joel Connell, a junior citrus major. He is the son of Robert and Judith Connell of Ocala, Fla.

Florida Department of Citrus Award - Derek Duke, a senior marketing/citrus major. He is the son of Samuel Duke of Frostproof, Fla., and Diane Layton of Boaz, Ala.

Florida Nursery Growers Association Award - Matt Knight, a senior environmental horticulture major. He is the son of Jimmy Knight of Arcadia, Fla., and Patricia Carrahan.

Denis L. Fontaine Memorial Scholarship (3) - Gina R. Alioto, a freshman business administration major and daughter of Glenn and Betty Alioto of Milwaukee, Wis.; Pam A. Halse, a junior and daughter of Francis and Patricia Halse of Mbabane, Switzerland; and Joni Jo Smith, a hotel management major and daughter of Keith and Betty Smith of Lakeland, Fla.

Food Machinery Corporation Citrus Scholarship (3) - Everette Jones, a junior citrus marketing major and son of Edwin and Colleen Jones of Fort Meade, Fla.; Roman Macias, a sophomore citrus marketing major and son of Isabel and Diana Macias of Fort Meade, Fla.; and Matt Moye, a citrus business major and son of James Moye of Wauchula, Fla. and Lela Moye of Zolfo Springs, Fla.

Institute of Management Accountants Award - Lisa A. Russo, a senior accounting major. She is the daughter of David and Linda Russo of Lakeland, Fla.
