Melvin
Gallery exhibition features
painter Chris Lyon
LAKELAND, Fla.
(Nov. 27, 2001) - Melvin Art Gallery at Florida Southern College
is pleased to present a solo exhibition of painter Chris Lyon Dec.
7 through Jan. 8. A reception for the artist will be held Dec. 12
from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
This exhibition,
entitled 16x16, will highlight 46 recently completed
oil-on-canvas paintings in a 16-by-16 format. The show offers the
audience an opportunity to study the progression, thought process,
and development of the artists ideas over an intense one-year
span.
I think
of my work as being a great spiritual manifestation. It is a place
of heightened awareness of the supernatural, Lyon said. The
imagery in my work is the essence of myself. The work contains the
energy and flow that a poet puts into words and a composer puts
into music.
Lyon graduated
with a master of fine arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania
in 1999. Since then he has had several large exhibitions, the most
recent being a solo exhibition in Tokyo where he received positive
reviews for his energetic paintings that typically focus on nature,
literature, color and abstract and concrete human forms.
Lyon currently
resides in Lakeland. He is represented by Bridgette Mayer Gallery,
Philadelphia (215-413-8893), and his works may be viewed online
at www.mayerartconsultants.com.
The Melvin Art
Gallery is open to the public free of charge weekdays from 1:30
to 4:30 p.m. and before and during intermissions of most performances
of the FSC Fine Arts Series.
