Southern students awarded
recognition at honors convocation
LAKELAND, Fla. (April 18, 2002) - The annual Honors Convocation
at Florida Southern College brought recognition to numerous students
in a variety of categories. Recognitions given included the following
honors and awards:
Religion in
Life Award (2) - Jennifer Woerner, a senior biology major and the
daughter of Lance and Helen Woerner of Davie, Fla.; and Misti Marie
Neutzling, a senior physical education major and daughter of Timothy
and Lynn Neutzling of Venice, Fla.
Order of Omega
- Greek Man of the Year - Ryan Young, a senior biology major. He
is the son of Roy and Suzanne Young of Quantico, Va.
Order of Omega
- Greek Woman of the Year - Carmella Frederick, a senior biology
major. She is the daughter of James and Deborah Frederick of Osprey,
Fla.
Leslie Harper
Purcell Scholarships (3) - Michelle Taylor Gillette, a senior computer
science major residing in Winter Haven, Fla.; Kathleen Michele Meckley,
a junior psychology major and daughter of Robert Meckley of Richmond,
Ind. and Karen Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; and Erin Pixton, a junior
athletic training major and daughter of John and Catherine Pixton
of Odessa, Fla.
Resident Advisor
of the Year - Marta Linder, a sophomore music performance major.
She is the daughter of Orin and Patricia Linder of Plant City, Fla.

Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award - Kristen Rexroad, a
senior biology and pre-physical therapy major. She is the daughter of
James and Janice Rexroad of Grand Junction, Colo.
Student Volunteer
of the Year Award - Ja'ci Quincy, a sophomore majoring in business
administration/sports management. She is the daughter of Darell
Brown of Tampa, Fla. and Yvonne Brown of Riverview, Fla.
Southern Ambassador
of the Year - Amanda Wagner, a senior biology major. She is the
daughter of Ken and Melanie Wagner of Leesburg, Fla.

son of Kimbel and Janet Anderson of Lutz, Fla.; Joseph Ryan Cahalan,
a freshman and son of Joseph and Barb Cahalan of Lakeland, Fla.;

and Patricia Douglin of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Amanda Wagner,
a senior biology major and the daughter of Ken and Melanie Wagner

a junior business administration major. He is the son of Sidney

Kappa Salutes (2) - Shari Simon, a senior biology major and daughter
of James Simon of Lakeland, Fla. and Lynnanne DeMaria of Oldsmar,
Fla.; and William Lyman Jeffries IV, a senior religion major. He
is the son of Mable Jean Jeffries of Lake Wales, Fla.
Agnes Johnson
Rowe and The James C. Rogers Recognitions - Kathryn Organ, a senior
broadcast journalism major, has won the Agnes Johnson Rowe award.
She is the daughter of Harold Organ of Chelmsford, Mass. and Jean
Organ of Naples, Fla. Ryan Young, a senior biology major, has won
the James C. Rogers Recognition. He is the son of Roy and Suzanne
Young of Quantico, Va.
