Southern featured in PBS show 'At Garden's Gate'
Show highlights architecture surrounding Frank Lloyd Wright designs
LAKELAND, Fla.
(Sept. 19, 2001) Florida Southern College, home to the worlds'
largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture,
will be featured on the PBS show, "At Garden's Gate" airing
at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 on WEDU-TV Channel 3. The show's segment
will discuss how Frank Lloyd Wright took the surrounding landscape
into consideration when designing his buildings. The "At Garden's
Gate" crew visited Florida Southern in February to shoot footage
of the campus.
"Florida
Southern wouldn't be Florida Southern without Frank Lloyd Wright
architecture," said Florida Southern College Professor Emeritus
Tom Mack, who walked the campus with Wright in the 1950s after Wright's
work for the college was completed. The crew spoke with Mack and
Florida Southern alumni Koby Kirwin, a landscape architect in Naples,
Fla.
"We're
thrilled to have Wright's architecture discussed from a different
perspective, especially when we're gearing up for such a big Wright
event here in Lakeland," said Lynn Dennis, director of Frank
Lloyd Wright Programs at Florida Southern College. The Frank Lloyd
Wright Building Conservancy will hold its annual conference in Lakeland,
Fla. Oct. 31 through Nov. 4. Florida Southern College is hosting
portions of the conference through a grant from the state of Florida.
