Hollingshead was appointed Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences in April and assumed his duties in July, replacing Dr. Jim Byrd, who left to become Dean of the School of Applied Sciences at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass.
Geoffrey Freebern ’91, an alumni member of the Florida Southern College Toastmasters International Club, recently represented FSC in the 2013 District 84, Division E, Area 54 Humorous Speech Contest.
The study of parasites is not a particularly glamorous topic, but Dr. Langford’s research is paying dividends both in contributing to scientific knowledge and in supporting engaged learning at FSC. Last spring, he received a $25,000 Research Opportunity Award from the prestigious National Science Foundation.
Allman will present the first lecture in the 2013-2014 Florida Lecture Series, hosted by the Lawton Chiles, Jr., Center for Florida History at Florida Southern College. His lecture, “Finding Florida: The True History of the Sunshine State,” will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in Branscomb Auditorium on the FSC campus.
A childhood encounter with a snake at his grandparents’ farm hooked Jeff Corwin on a lifetime of adventures with wildlife. The host of numerous TV documentary shows brought his entertaining message of “the mystery and the magic of nature and the conservation challenges we face on the planet” to FSC’s first convocation of the year and drew a crowd in an afternoon session for a 90-minute presentation that included live animals.
