Florida Southern Hosts “Little Shop of Horrors”

LAKEAND (Jan. 11, 2012) – Florida Southern College will host a performance of the classic musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Branscomb Auditorium.

The performance, by the Polk County company TheatreWorks Florida, is part of the College’s annual Festival of Fine Arts.

“Little Shop of Horrors” concerns a shy, down-and-out flower shop clerk named Seymour who becomes famous thanks to his discovery of a mysterious plant. His newfound fame helps him woo the beautiful Audrey, but Seymour’s secret is that the plant must have flesh and blood to grow. The musical, by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, is a rock-and-roll, doo-wop spoof of 1950s science-fiction films.

“Little Shop of Horrors is directed by Scott A. Cook of TheatreWorks Florida, with set design by FSC Associate Professor of Theater James Beck.

Tickets are $18 and seats are still available.
