John Wendel to speak on Dec. 2

LAKELAND (Nov 22, 2011) – As part of the newly launched “Legally Speaking” series at Florida Southern College, sports law and non-profit law expert John F. Wendel, J.D. will offer a lecture, “To Be or Not To Be Non-Profit, That is the Question – What every Organization and Those Who Represent Them Should be Asking,” on Friday, Dec. 2, from noon to 2:00 p.m. The lunch and lecture will be held in the Thrift Alumni Room on campus. The event, which is open to the public, will cost $20 per person and includes lunch, the lecture, valet parking, and time for questions and answers.

John F. Wendel’s extensive non-profit practice has included service as counsel to many non-profit entities and trade associations including the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, Inc., and related professional baseball leagues and teams. He is general counsel to Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In, Inc. and related entities, and he serves as general counsel to The Antique Motorcycle Club of America, Inc. Additionally, Mr. Wendel has served as the county attorney for Citrus County, general counsel to Citrus County Development Authority, and general counsel to Citrus County Health Facilities Authority, among many other government entities. Mr. Wendel, a former town judge and city judge, is a graduate of Stetson University College of Law and the University of Florida.

The “Legally Speaking” series is being sponsored by the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and is intended to bring together members of the legal community, area professionals, students, and the members of the general public for meaningful discussions about timely legal issues facing society.

“We were so pleased to host the first successful lecture of our ‘Legally Speaking’ series with Chief Justice Charles Canady in October, and we are looking forward to another informative event with Mr. Wendel on December 2nd,” said Dr. Cindy Hardin, professor of business administration and “Legally Speaking” lecture series coordinator at Florida Southern College.
