FSC Students Present Healthy Campus Initiatives at Conference

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 8, 2010) -- Florida Southern won two major awards and FSC student peer educators presented several workshops at a regional conference sponsored by The BACCHUS Network. The BACCHUS Network is a nonprofit organization that promotes student- and young adult-based, campus and community-wide leadership on health and safety issues.

The students and FSC staffers, members of FSC's Department of Wellness and Recreation's Healthy Campus Coalition, traveled to Clemson University to attend the Area 9 BACCHUS Conference on Feb. 26 and 27. Area 9 includes colleges and universities from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

At the conference, FSC students presented five workshops: Ketia Harris presented on FSC's national award-winning World AIDs Day Program and the Tobacco Awareness Program. Colleen Brady and Consuelo Sanchez presented on Wellness TV@FSC, a collaborative program with the College's Department of Communication. Nadia Rumbolt presented on FSCs Take Back the Night (domestic violence program) and the Straight Talk program.

FSCs Healthy Campus Coalition adviser, Cathy Robinson-Pickett, was named Outstanding Advisor of the Year, and Wellness TV@FSC won Outstanding Program of the Year honors.

Student peer educators Marco Bernard and Jenny Caron and Assistant Director of Wellness Programs Michael McElveen also attended the conference.
