Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra to Perform Tchaikovsky at FSC
LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2010) Florida Southern College and the Festival of Fine Arts welcome the internationally renowned Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra on Feb. 2. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Branscomb Memorial Auditorium on the Florida Southern campus. Founded in 1978, the Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra began performing 18th, 19th, and 20th century works on Russian radio. The orchestra quickly expanded to television, and in 1980 it created a major subscription series in Moscows Tchaikovsky Hall and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Since then, the orchestra has toured the United States and the world, even as it continues to faithfully record the best of Russian and European classical music. At FSC, the orchestra will present an evening of works by one of Russias most beloved composers, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, including Hamlet Fantasy Overture After Shakespeare in F Minor, Op. 67; Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 35; and Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op. 29, Pathtique. A pre-concert lecture will begin at 6:45 p.m. in Branscomb 101. Tickets are $35. FSC students are admitted free of charge; non-FSC students admitted at half price.
