LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2009) — Florida Southern College's Forensic Mocs brought home five individual event awards and a "readers theater" award from the Star Invitational in Jacksonville. Standout competitors Krista Miller, Megan Getter, and Lacey Brown led the team to 5th place overall in the tournament.

Nine FSC students participated in the competition, competing against students from 14 colleges and universities. The event was hosted by Florida State College in Jacksonville.

A newcomer to the team, senior Lacey Brown earned fourth place in "dramatic interpretation" and fifth place in a "duo" piece with senior Krista Miller. Sophomore Megan Getter, another new team member, placed sixth out of 48 competitors in "impromptu competition."

"We have a lot of new talent on the team, with almost a dozen new members," said team coach Dr. Christopher J. Fenner. "Megan Getter is already proving herself to be a powerhouse in limited preparation events, and I am predicting a great spring for the team."

Senior Krista Miller followed a strong second-place showing last month at the Capital City Competition in Gainesville with a first-place finish in "after dinner speaking" and fifth place in "prose interpretation." Sophomore Erin Sneed, in only her second competitive outing, placed seventh in "after dinner speaking."

Freshman Erin Ferguson and seniors Tony Rivera, Krista Miller, and Lacey Brown finished fourth in "readers theater" with a performance of "Baby with the Bathwater" by Christopher Durang.

Also competing for Florida Southern College were first-year students Aurelie Churly and Mandi Erhard, and junior Ashley Roberts.

The Florida Southern Forensic Mocs will compete again in January at tournaments at Gainesville State College and the University of West Florida. Students interested in joining the forensic team should contact Dr. Fenner at cfenner@flsouthern.edu.
