FSC Theatre Department Presents "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean"

LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 5, 2009) — Florida Southern College's Theatre Arts Department presents Ed Graczyk's 1982 play, "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean," in the Loca Lee Buckner Theatre on the college campus. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19-21 and Dec. 3-5; matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and Dec. 6. Mary T. Albright directs.

The play takes place on Sept. 30, 1975, at the Five and Dime near the small Texas town where Dean filmed "Giant." On this date, the members of the "Disciples of James Dean" gather to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the night James Dean died in an auto accident. Through flashback scenes, the characters relive the events of that fateful night in 1955 when the idol of their youth crashed his Porsche on a highway in California. They each experience painful memories of their past and present, revealing to themselves and to the group a secret pain and a secret strength hidden deep inside.

Tickets are $15. FSC students are admitted free; other students pay half-price. For tickets, please contact the Buckner Theatre box office at 863.680.3089 or bucknerboxoffice@flsouthern.edu. Box office hours are 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays.
