Students Take the Stage To Kick Off Festival's 50th Season

FSC's Jazz Ensemble took to the stage at Wednesday morning's Convocation to the delight of faculty, staff, and students to perform their swinging rendition of the popular jazz standard "Sweet Georgia Brown."

As the musical kickoff to FSC's Festival of Fine Arts golden anniversary season, FSC ensembles entertained the campus community with selections from the Festivals Opening Gala.

Like no other in the state, the Festival features performers who are launching their careers alongside established names. Patrons may see an internationally renowned artist one night and student performers the next.

Dr. Brian Brink, chairman of the music department, feels this early stage experience fosters a sense of professionalism.

And unlike many music programs, FSC's ensembles are open to everyone. "The FSC Music Department offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to participate in music making, an enriching experience that complements your education," says Dr. Brink.

This years Festival lineup includes classical pianist André Watts, celebrated jazz trumpeter Marvin Stamm, and the Moscow Festival Ballet, which will perform Copplia.
