Two FSC Students Take First Place in Local Toastmasters Competition
LAKELAND, Fla. (March 3, 2009) —Florida Southern College students Laveen Ashoak Daryani and Brittany Archer, winners of the FSC Toastmasters Club speech contest, have won first place in the Area 51 speech competition held on campus March 2. They competed with the winners of the Lakeland, Plant City, and Board of County Commissioners clubs. The FSC winners will move on to compete in the April 11 district competition being held in Kissimmee. Daryani, a senior International Business major, took first place in the prepared speech competition. He is the son of Ashoak and Hanisha Daryani residing in New Delhi, India. This is the first time in 19 years that an FSC student has won in the prepared speech category. The previous winner, Geoff Freebern ’91, was a charter member of the club who continues to serve as a chapter advisor. Archer, a freshman International Business major, placed first in the impromptu speech category. She is the daughter of Emmit and Beverly Archer of Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. |
