FSC Cross Country Coach Named SSC Coach of the Year
Jamie Moreno didn’t waste any time. In his first season as cross country coach, Mr. Moreno extended the Mocs’ streak of Sunshine State Conference titles to 12 and was voted SSC Men’s Coach of the Year. “It felt good to come into an established program and to continue that strong tradition,” Mr. Moreno said. “It’s a reflection on the team, obviously. I have a pretty talented group of young men, and they work extremely hard and are very coachable. “They are the ones who earned that recognition. They perform on the course every week,” he said. “They are proud of the tradition we have here at Florida Southern, and they work hard to keep it going. All three of the Sunshine State Conference men’s individual cross country awards went to the Moccasins. In addition to Moreno’s honor, Scott Mackley, the SSC individual champion, was voted Men’s Runner of the Year, and Eric Larson, who had four Top 5 finishes, including a fourth-place finish in the SSC meet, was voted Men’s Freshman of the Year. Mr. Moreno, who also coaches track, came to FSC from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., where he started the cross country and track programs. In four seasons, his teams produced four conference championships in cross country and seven national qualifiers in track. |
