FSC student chapter of American Chemical Society wins award
LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2008) — The Florida Southern College student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has been selected to receive a Commendable award for its chapter activities during the 2007-08 academic year. The FSC chapter was one of 207 chosen by the ACS to receive special recognition. “I congratulate the students for their hard work and their dedication,” said Dr. Carmen Gauthier, chemistry professor and chair of the science and mathematics division. “I am honored to be their advisor.” Gauthier received special commendation for her commitment to the student chapter. “Professor Gauthier’s efforts certainly represent the best in undergraduate science education and mentoring around the country,” said Bruce E. Bursten, Ph.D., ACS president. “We extend our warmest congratulations to the students and Professor Gauthier for setting such a fine example for other chapters and preparing the next generation of chemical professionals.” The award-winning chapters will be honored at the 237th ACS National Meeting in Salt Lake City on March 22. In addition, the awards will be announced in the society’s national newsmagazine “Chemical & Engineering News” and in the student affiliate magazine “In Chemistry.” |
