FSC places third overall at the 30th annual Collegiate Water Ski National Championships from Oct. 16-18 at Firebird Lake in Maricopa, Ariz.

Florida Southern’s water-ski team placed third overall at the 30th annual Collegiate Water Ski National Championships near Phoenix, and Marion Mathieu won the top overall spot for women.

The women’s team placed first overall among Division I schools. In addition to Mathieu, the women’s team includes Keri McClure, who finished eighth; Alex Lauretano, 16th; Renee Powell, 19th; and Clementine Lucine, who finished 21st.

The men’s team finished fifth among the Division I schools. Matteo D’Alberto placed fifth overall; Kevin Jack placed seventh; Alex Paradis tied for eighth; Chris Driggers placed 22nd; and Louis Thomas tied for 28th.

In the team competition, the University of Louisiana at Monroe won top honors, followed by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and FSC. The competition combines the scores of all 10 skiers in three categories: slalom, jump, and trick skiing.

Firebird Lake in Maricopa, Ariz., where the competition was held, is a saltwater lake with a higher salt composition than the Atlantic Ocean.
