Fall 2008 Common Reading: Colors of the Mountain by Da Chen

Common Reading: Colors of the Mountain by Da ChenThe committee of students, faculty and staff have selected Colors of the Mountain by Da Chen as the Common Reading for Fall 2008.

A coming of age story of a boy in China, Colors of the Mountain takes place during that country’s Cultural Revolution. It grapples with issues of poverty and hunger, family and friends, and the impact of political change.  Topics explored include: access to education, vocational choices, and personal economic circumstances. The book is thoughtful and often funny.

We hope Da Chen's story will provoke an exciting discussion about issues of poverty and hunger that is both intellectual and action-driven.

Colors of the Mountain can be purchased from Amazon.com.
