Camerata Ireland to perform at Florida Southern College

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 3, 2008) — Florida Southern College and the Festival of Fine Arts welcome Camerata Ireland with Barry Douglas on March 17. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Branscomb Auditorium on the Florida Southern campus.

Douglas will conduct the Shubert 5th Symphony, Gorecki’s “Three Pieces in the Olden Style for Strings,” and the “Concerto in D for String Orchestra,” (Basel Concerto) by Igor Stravinsky. He will also perform as soloist for the Beethoven “Concerto for Piano No. 2 in B-flat Major.”

Douglas founded Camerata Ireland in 1999 as an orchestra of Irish musicians determined to match the best in the world. Through its tours in the U.S., South America, China and most of Europe, the orchestra has developed a reputation for excellence and for creating a particularly distinctive Irish string sound.

Tickets are $25. FSC students are admitted free of charge; non-FSC students admitted at half price. For ticket information, contact the Branscomb Auditorium box office at (863) 680-4296.
