Student awarded President’s Scholar Medal

LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 2, 2008) —Florida Southern College 2007 graduate Megan Ashley Hoak received the President’s Scholar Medal during winter commencement Dec. 15. The medal is awarded to students with a 3.85 or higher grade point average who represent the best qualities of an FSC student, participating in the life of the college and the community. 

Hoak, who majored in English with a double concentration in literature and writing, is the daughter of David and Susan Hoak of Longwood, Fla. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, as well as Sigma Tau Delta, in which she served as president her senior year. Her poetry will be published in the 2007-2008 edition of the Saw Palm literary journal. She plans to pursue a master's in creative writing.

“Megan was an extraordinary student both intellectually and creatively. We're immensely proud of her in the English program,” said Dr. Mary Pharr, who chairs the program.
