FSC nursing department chair elected to board of directors of Florida Nurses Association

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2007) — Dr. Mavra Kear, chair and associate professor of the nursing program at Florida Southern College, has been elected to serve as director-at-large on the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) board of directors for a two-year term. The FNA serves and supports all registered nurses through professional development, advocacy and the promotion of excellence at every level of professional nursing practice. As a director-at-large, Kear will serve as a liaison between the board and the 31 districts across the state.

Kear has been a member of FNA since 1984. “I look forward to new opportunities in my role as an FNA director to advocate for nurses and the nursing profession,” she said. Kear joined the College faculty in 2001. She is board certified through the American Nurse Credentialing Center as an adult health nurse practitioner and is a Helene Fuld academic leadership fellow. Other professional activities include past president of FNA District 12 (Polk County), web master for District 12, and member of Sigma Theta Tau International (Nursing Honor Society).
