Florida Southern ROTC battalion excels in leadership events
LAKELAND, Fla. (Aug. 27, 2007) — Cadets from the Florida Southern College Army ROTC “Moccasin” Battalion performed in an outstanding manner at challenging leadership courses and events over the summer. Below is a summary of their activities. Eleven ROTC seniors participated in the Leader Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) at Fort Lewis, Wash. LDAC is a demanding, 33-day leadership capstone event attended by more than 4,500 ROTC seniors from across the nation. The following students successfully completed the course. Justin Becker, a physical education major residing in Bradenton, Fla.; Eamon Breslin, a religion/philosophy major and son of James and Eileen Breslin of Boynton Beach, Fla.; Eoghan Cullen, a biology major, husband of Stephanie Cullen and son of William and Frances Cullen, all of Lakeland, Fla. Cullen also completed an internship with the United States Army during the summer with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; Timothy Emmons, a history major and son of Gary and Deborah Emmons of Lakeland, Fla.; Blake Hallowell, a communication major and son of John and Stephanie Hallowell of Homosassa, Fla. Hallowell also completed a communications internship with the United States Army during the summer with the Fort Bragg, N.C. Public Affairs Office; Gwen McDole, a criminology major residing in Lakeland, Fla.; Mark Milligan, a criminology major and son of Mark Milligan of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Tami McVickercox of Naples, Fla.; Paul Schwartz, a biology major and son of James and Pamela Schwartz of Naples, Fla.; William Smith, a psychology major and son of Sidney Smith of Orlando, Fla., and Leslie Bailey of Sorrento, Fla.; Jaclyn Sugg, a studio art major and daughter of Paul and Jennifer Sugg of Davison, Mich.; and Jane Tull, a biology major and daughter of Jerrie Harn of Mulberry, Fla.; Elizabeth Cohn and Melissa Fragoso completed the Army Leader’s Training Course (LTC) at Fort Knox, Ky. LTC is a 28-day indoctrination to the United States Army and the ROTC program. Cohn is a junior athletic training major and daughter of Roger and Ruth Cohn of Pine Plains, N.Y.; Fragoso is majoring in business administration and Spanish. She is the daughter of Henry Fragoso and Marizel Collazo of North Bergon, N.J. Nine FSC cadets recently graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., and earned their Army airborne wings. Ethan Byrne, a junior athletic training major, is the son of Robert and Geraldine Byrne of Tampa, Fla.; Bryan Dobson is a junior criminology major and son of Mark and Cheryl Dobson of Winchester, Va.; James Doyle, a junior criminology major, is the son of James Agett of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Mary Doyle of Davie, Fla.; Angel Figueroa, a junior criminology major, is the son of Francisco and Myrian Figueroa of Davenport, Fla.; Heidi Grondahl is a sophomore biology major and daughter of Kevin and Bonnie Grondahl of Fruitland Park, Fla.; Emily McDowell, a sophomore criminology major, is the daughter of Bryan and Judy McDowell of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; Peter Morey is a junior religion major and son of Walter and Liz Morey of Sarasota, Fla.; Phillip Price, a junior psychology major, is the son of Andy Price and Teresa Price of Auburndale, Fla.; and Thomas Weadon, a junior psychology major, is the son of Thomas and Helen Weadon of Lehigh Acres, Fla.
