Two students win President’s Scholar Medal

LAKELAND, Fla. (May 9, 2007) — Two Florida Southern College 2007 graduates received the President’s Scholar Medal during spring commencement April 28. The medal is awarded to students with a 3.85 or higher grade point average and who represent the best qualities of an FSC student, participating in the life of the college and the community. 

Christine Franklin, a music major, is the daughter of James and Pamela Franklin of Stephens City, Va. Franklin has received many honors, including Phi Eta Sigma Freshman of the Year, Omicron Delta Kappa Junior of the Year, Student Leader of the Year, and Student Government Association Female Senator of the Year. She served as president of the SGA and participated in Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Pathfinders, and ODK. She has volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Sandwich Ministries, Give Kids the World, and Week of Impact.

Judith Durante, an elementary education major, resides with her husband, Bruce Durante, in Lakeland, Fla. She is the daughter of Manny and Irene Kirschbaum of Tamarac, Fla. Durante is representative of the outstanding graduates of Florida Southern’s Evening Degree Program. She completed her undergraduate studies while working full-time as a paraprofessional in the exceptional education programs at George Jenkins High School and Crystal Lake Middle School, assisting teachers to better provide for the special educational needs of each of their students.
