Tampa Bay Devil Rays team up with education

Florida Southern College students develop marketing plan for the team

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 20, 2007) — Florida Southern College marketing management students will participate in a unique marketing project sponsored by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team. The students will conduct a marketing campaign on March 27-29 on the FSC campus to determine the college population’s interest in the team’s games.

The students have created a fully functional marketing agency responsible for researching, implementing and evaluating an integrated marketing campaign for the Tampa Bay team. After organizing their agency and researching the target market, student teams have formulated their marketing strategy recommendations and campaign ideas for the Devil Rays management team. After presenting their ideas to the client, the students will execute their campaign as well as track and analyze the results.

The campaign begins on March 27 with a Price is Right game at 7:30 p.m. at the Bandshell. The following evening at 7:30, also at the Bandshell, a Battle of the Bands takes place with a hot dog eating contest during intermission. On the 29th the first-ever prom on the Florida Southern campus begins at 7 p.m. in the Charles T. Thrift Alumni Center. All events include prizes and free giveaways, as well as a cafeteria theme night and other attractions.

“The students are very excited about these events and hope to see everyone on campus join in to support their campaign and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays,” said Lucy Kaul, public relations manager for the event.
