Buildings to be demolished in preparation for new residential facility at FSC

LAKELAND, Fla. (June 5, 2006) — Two of the seven Florida Southern College residential dorms on Lake Hollingsworth known as Panhellenic will be demolished Tuesday, June 6 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., in preparation for the first phase of construction of the college’s new residential facility.

The outdated 50-year old buildings will make way for a state-of-the art residential complex funded by FSC alumni Carol Jenkins Barnett and Barney Barnett (http://www.flsouthern.edu/news.asp?ACTION=view&ID=161), and designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, an internationally-acclaimed firm (http://www.flsouthern.edu/news.asp?ACTION=view&ID=176). The unique design of the three new Y-shaped buildings will join Wright’s style with the campus’ Georgian buildings, guarantee a lake view for every bedroom, and incorporate a wall of windows and expansive lawn along the lake. Construction is planned to be completed by fall.
