FSC professor receives Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 29, 2006) — Peter V. Bias, professor of business administration and economics, received the Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award during the college’s Founders Day Convocation on March 21.  The award, established in 1997, is conferred annually to the Florida Southern College teacher who has demonstrated outstanding classroom teaching performance, the encouragement of which was a priority of Dr. Wade during his fifteen-year tenure as Florida Southern's chief academic officer (1973-77; 1985-96).

“With among the highest teaching evaluations at the College, Dr. Bias has successfully maintained the affection and respect of his students despite his rigorous standards,” said Susan Conner, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “He holds all of his students to the same standard of excellence, and students recognize his deep character, his incredible knowledge and his no-nonsense expectations.”

Bias has been a faculty member at Florida Southern for 18 years.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati and has had a distinguished career writing workbooks, readings texts and disciplinary articles on forecasting and other issues of employment, income, taxes, financial segmentation and commercial bank behavior. Bias received Florida Southern’s “Lover of Wisdom” award in 2001. He will receive a stipend as this year’s recipient of the Ben and Janice Wade Outstanding Teaching Award
