SunTrust Bank funds new initiatives for FSC’s department of business and economics

LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2005) — SunTrust Bank Central Florida has given Florida Southern College a gift to support enhancements to the department of business and economics. The gift will fund the SunTrust Fellowship in Business and Economics, the SunTrust Faculty Excellence Award and technology upgrades to the Business Department’s Carlisle Rogers Classroom Building.

“I am most grateful to SunTrust Bank for this significant investment in our Department of Business and Economics,” said college president, Dr. Anne B. Kerr. “Business is our largest major and one our signature programs. SunTrust’s gift will provide exciting and critical enhancements to our program, supporting the College as we advance to the next level of excellence.”

The SunTrust Fellowship in Business and Economics is a competitive opportunity for students to work directly with faculty to apply classroom principles in original research projects. The student and faculty team will work over the summer, share their results at on-campus seminars and national conferences, and receive recognition at the department’s annual awards presentation. The SunTrust Faculty Excellence Award will recognize exemplary teaching, advising, professional contributions, and student-faculty collaborative learning, and will award the recipient $2,000. Lastly, a gift will provide SMARTBoard technology, an interactive and dynamic educational tool, to the Carlisle Rogers Classroom Building. It will enhance the presentation and help to deepen students’ understanding of often complex material in business and economics courses.
