SunTrust Bank CEO appointed to Florida Southern board of trustees

LAKELAND, Fla. (August 17, 2005) — Ray L. Sandhagen, chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Central Florida Region, has been appointed to Florida Southern College’s board of trustees. He will serve on the board for a three-year term.

Sandhagen, a 1971 graduate of FSC, has been in banking for 34 years, holding managerial positions in commercial lending, commercial real estate, corporate banking, and credit policy. In 1993, he joined SunTrust Bank Southwest Florida in Sarasota as its executive vice president and chief credit officer. He was named president, was elected to the board of directors in 1996, and was promoted to chairman, president, and CEO in 2000. In January of 2005, he took his current position, in which he oversees 1400 employees in 12 counties.

Sandhagen is actively involved in community, civic, charitable and business groups including the Governor's Council, executive committee and board of directors for the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, and the executive committee and board of directors of United Arts of Central Florida, Inc.
