Behind the Name: Ruel B. Gilbert Gymnasium
Ruel B. Gilbert Gilbert was a charitable Methodist donor who served as Florida Southern College's Honorary Chancellor in 1939. Emory University's Gilbert Hall (1947) is a residence hall named for Ruel B. Gilbert, and the First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, Florida features the Ruel B. Gilbert Chapel (1951).
