The Florida Southern College Department of Music seeks a well-qualified professional to provide musical and artistic leadership for its orchestra program.  This is a full-time, tenure-track-eligible position, beginning in August 2014.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Duties include selecting repertoire, planning and conducting rehearsals and performances, yearly collaborations with the choral and opera programs, coordination of department string studies, recruitment and retention of students, studio teaching, and establishing strong connections with high school orchestra programs on local, state, and regional levels.
 
NASM-accredited, the Department of Music offers the Bachelor of Music in Performance, the Bachelor of Music Education, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, and the Bachelor of Science in Music with a Concentration in Music Management.  The department currently has approximately 100 music majors, nine full-time music faculty members, and twenty adjunct faculty members.

Education, Work Experience and Requirements

An earned terminal degree is preferred, although candidates holding a Master’s degree with significant professional experience will also receive due consideration.
The ideal candidate should have experience directing a collegiate orchestra program, demonstrating excellence in teaching, conducting, and performing, as well as monitoring and developing string technique among players with a variety of backgrounds.  Expertise in studio teaching in an applied strings area is essential.
