The Department of Communication at Florida Southern College seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of communication, with a specialization in public relations, beginning in August 2014. Salary is competitive with peer institutions and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Communication Department at Florida Southern College offers the B.A. and B.S. degrees in advertising/public relations; sports communication and marketing; political communication; broadcast, print, and online media; and interpersonal/organizational communication. Serving approximately 175 students, the department offers vibrant curricular and co-curricular opportunities, excellent internship experiences, and is located between major media markets in Tampa and Orlando. Additionally, the Department offers a nationally-ranked, award-winning forensics program. It hosts the annual Child of the Sun Invitational tournament, competes in 5-6 regional tournaments yearly, and participates in the Novice Nationals and the Pi Kappa Delta national championship.
Education, Work Experience and Requirements
Required Qualifications: The department seeks an individual who can teach introductory speech, public relations and organizational communication courses. Because this is a tenure-track appointment, an active scholarly and/or creative agenda is expected. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field at the time of appointment. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is required.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to teaching experience in the field, the ideal candidate will have industry experience, as well as experience in directing a forensics program.
