DUTIES/SCOPE:   

Florida Southern College invites applications for a one year, non-tenure track appointment in Philosophy with possibility of renewal..  Rank is open and commensurate with experience.  The successful candidate will be an engaging professor of undergraduates who can attract students to the discipline, invigorate the Philosophy program, and contribute actively to the learning environment of the college, which requires engaged-learning strategies.

FSC is a small college where every faculty member is expected to be an exceptional teacher.  Consequently, FSC is searching for individuals who motivate students to take an active role in their own learning and are skilled in the use of modern methods of instructional technology.  In addition, FSC faculty members view excellent advising as critical to assisting students in interpreting the significance of their educational experiences, rather than merely advising students on course selection.

Area(s) of Expertise:  General Philosophical Tradition, Ethics, Undergraduate teaching excellence.

Duties:
The candidate chosen to fill the position will teach undergraduate, introductory courses in philosophy and ethics that meet the college’s general education requirements as well as advanced courses for the major and the minor.  The position entails a 3/3 course load and student advising. 

Description of the department:
The Philosophy Program is housed in the Department of Religion & Philosophy.  The candidate must demonstrate amenability and collegiality conducive to working alongside colleagues in Religion.

QUALIFICATIONS/Requirements:

A Ph.D. in Philosophy, a demonstrated aptitude and passion for undergraduate teaching, a program and curricular vision.  In addition, the successful candidate will be skilled in methods of engaged learning, the use of instructional technology, and student advising.  Furthermore, FSC faculty members function as valuable college-wide citizens, participating effectively in committee work and other activities supporting FSC’s teaching and learning community.  Faculty members provide leadership for faculty development programs, internships, international study, and service learning.  Successful candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for such leadership opportunities.
