A: The College celebrated its Golden Jubilee year in 1935 to mark "50 years of service to youth and to pay tribute to loyal men and women who have kept the doors of the school open despite fire, freezes, storms and financial difficulty." In Dr. Ludd Spivey's 10th year as president, the College achieved accreditation for the first time. It was a new beginning, and the school officially changed its name to Florida Southern College, changed the school colors from blue and white to red and white, and launched an ambitious building program.
