N. Curtis Peterson III, Ph.D.
Professor of Horticultural Science
"During my 37 years of college teaching, I have used and will continue to use engaged or hands-on learning techniques. Confucius, the ancient Chinese trainer 'extra-ordinaire' was onto something when he said in 451BCE, 'What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand.'"
A native of Lakeland, Florida, Dr. Peterson worked in both nursery production and landscape management roles for his family’s nursery, garden center and landscape contracting business. In a teaching career spanning 37 years and six states, he has taught twelve different landscape horticulture courses, including subject areas of ornamental landscape plants, design, propagation, and management. Dr. Peterson returned to Lakeland and joined the faculty of Florida Southern College after completing 14 years as the state-wide Landscape Horticulture Extension Specialist in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University.
