Bruce W. Darby, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology

"I draw on my academic background in the liberal arts to broaden students' understanding of psychology to include perspectives from political science, history, philosophy, art and more. I've developed an interest in a narrative approach to psychology - everyone has a story. All of us share in a life narrative and this informs my approach to teaching - especially teaching young people whose narratives are in the early stages of development."

Dr. Darby received a B.A. degree with high honors in Political Science from Millsaps College in 1974. He then obtained an M.A. in Political Science (International relations, 1977), an M.A. in Psychology (social/experimental psychology, 1980) and a Ph.D. in Psychology (social/developmental psychology, 1983), all from the University of Florida. He has been at Florida Southern College since 1989. He currently serves as Chair of the Psychology Department.

Dr. Darby is a member of the Southeastern Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Eta Sigma, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honorary societies.
