Adjunct Faculty - Viola
Laura Brenner is the Adjunct Professor of Viola at Florida Southern College. She received her M.Ed. degree in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University. There she learned how to design and implement exportable media-based instruction. The website she created as part of that degree program may be found at PracticeYourViola. There is an online bowing class and ViolaWiki which supplement her teaching studio.
Ms. Brenner received her B. M. degree from North Park University in 1989. There she studied viola with Robert Swan and Catherine Brubaker of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Laura Brenner also enjoyed three seasons with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has played with the Virginia Symphony, and toured Asia several times as principal violist with the Mantovani Orchestra. Ms. Brenner has also appeared in the orchestras of Jimi Page, and Robert Plant, James Taylor, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, and many others.
Ms. Brenner has also been a guest speaker at the Florida String Teachers conferences. She has adjudicated state Solo and Ensemble competitions. Laura Brenner performs regularly with Sarasota Orchestra, the Brevard Symphony in Melbourne, and the Orlando Philharmonic. She commissioned a viola sonata, Biography, by Robert Kerr and it was performed in recital as a world premiere. The American Viola Society has reviewed that piece.
