Fernando Traba

Fernando Traba, began his musical studies with his father (Principal Bassoon of the National Opera Orchestra in Mexico City) at the age of six. In 1984 he received the National Youth Award for musical excellence given by the President of Mexico. Mr. Traba has served as principal bassoon with all five major orchestras in Mexico City, as well as the National Opera Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal (1989-1991) and the Orquesta del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain (1991-1992). He has performed many of the major bassoon concertos with orchestras in Mexico, Europe and the United States and in the Fall of 2010 played the Florida premier of Peter Hope's Concertino for Bassoon and Orchestra. Since 1992 Mr. Traba has served as Principal Bassoon of the Sarasota Orchestra and the Sarasota Wind Quintet. He holds Bachelor and the Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institutes of Music and has also done postgraduate work at the Juilliard School.
