Jewish Ministry
Florida Southern College boasts an active Jewish population that includes faculty as well as students. The closest place of worship is a Conservative synagogue, Temple Emanuel, located on the far side of Lake Hollingsworth. Regular Shabbat services begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings and include onegs. Students are welcome to attend High Holiday services free of charge and are invited to various special events at the Temple at any time. Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Catherine Eskin, English, or the Temple directly.
Polk County also has a Reform temple in Winter Haven and Chabads and Orthodox congregations are available in both the Orlando and Tampa areas.
Shalom Friends, a student group, provides the Jewish community at Florida Southern with the basic needs of Jewish life. Shalom Friends also educates the Florida Southern students about the Jewish religion and creates relationship with the Lakeland Jewish community.
