Hungerford, 6-1, 6-0, and from Magdalena Ekert at No. 5,
who downed Mona Sendesni, 6-1, 6-2. The other four

MOCS TOP NOVA 5-2, FACE LYNN IN
REGIONAL FINAL
BOCA RATON - Florida Southern overcame a
2-1 deficit after the doubles competition and defeated
12th-ranked Nova Southeastern 5-2 in the first round of
the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Boca Raton on
Thursday. The win puts the 13th-ranked Moccasins into
the regional title match Friday morning at 8:30 against
third-ranked Lynn.
Veronicka Kovacikova and Karolina
Stochlova produced the Moccasins' doubles win at No. 3.
After Ashley Hungerford at No. 3, Mona Sendesni at No. 5

ahead 4-2, Stochlova downed Alexa Korotkevich 6-2, 5-7,
6-3 at No. 2 to clinch the match. Senka Softic at No. 1

The Moccasins are now 17-6 and will face
a 22-2 Lynn team that blanked Carson-Newman 5-0 in
Thursday's other first-round match. FSC lost to Lynn 8-1

MOCS SET TO
DEFEND REGIONAL TENNIS TITLE
Coach Trish Riddell's Lady Mocs would
like to see a repeat of last year at this week's NCAA
Division II Southeast Regional at Boca Raton. Last
year the Moccasins had lost twice to Nova Southeastern
during the regular season, then beat the Sharks in the
NCAA regional. This year they lost twice to Nova
Southeastern during the regular season (6-3 and 5-4) and
meet the Sharks for the third time in their opening
match Thursday at 2 p.m. Lynn plays Carson-Newman
at 10 a.m. in the other match, with Thursday's two
winners playing Friday at 8:30 a.m. for the regional
championship. Last year's regional win over Nova
came in the championship match for the Moccasins and
they went on to finish in a tie for fifth at the
Division II Championship.
The latest ITA Division II rankings have
the Moccasins ranked 13th and Nova Southeastern ranked
12th. Lynn is ranked third, while Carson-Newman is
unranked. Individually, FSC's Senka Softic, 19-3
and the Sunshine State Conference Player of the year, is
ranked 15th in Division II in singles.
SOFTIC IS
SSC WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Moccasins' Senka Softic is the
Sunshine State Conference Women's Player of the
Year. It's the second straight year she has won a
major SSC Award. Last year she was the SSC Women's
Freshman of the Year.
The sophomore from Tuzla, Bosnia, is
19-3 this season, all at #1 singles. She went 6-2
against SSC opponents and is 5-3 against
nationally-ranked foes. She currently is ranked
18th in Division II in singles.
Softic was the only Moccasin named to
the All-SSC team.
The Moccasins, ranked 14th in Division,
are 16-6 and will play Nova Southeastern May 8 at 2 p.m.
in their first-round match at the NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional at Boca Raton. It will be the
Lady Mocs' third meeting this season with Nova
Southeastern. A win over the Sharks would send FSC
to the regional final May 9 at 8:30 a.m. against the
Lynn/Carson-Newman winner.
