GOLLINER ACQUIRED BY ANGELS' ORGANIZATION

Former Moccasin David Golliner didn't have a very long stay with the Pensacola Pelicans.  His contract has been purchased by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and he has been assigned to the Angels' Class A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, club in the Midwest League.  He signed with Pensacola July 5 and appeared in just two games with the Pelicans, which are not affiliated with any major league team.

TWO MORE FORMER MOCS TURN PRO

Two more former Moccasin baseball players, Arden McWilliams and David Golliner, have joined the professional ranks.  Both have signed with the Pensacola Pelicans, a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball.

Both players were seniors this past spring.  McWilliams started all 50 games for the Moccasins and hit .338 with nine home runs and 45 RBI.  Golliner was the Mocs' team MVP after hitting .351 and producing team highs in home runs (12) and RBI (51).

All three of the Moccasins who were selected in the June Major League Draft have signed with their respective organizations.  Jeremy Thorne, picked in the 29th round by the Angels, has been assigned to Orem, Utah, in the Pioneer League.  Brian Schultz, a 35th-round choice of the Marlins, is playing for the Gulf Coast Marlins in Jupiter.  Ryan Koch, chosen in the 36th round by the Blue Jays, is on the roster of the Gulf Coast Blue Jays in Dunedin.

JOYCE, TOMKO BACK IN THE BIGS

Former Mocs Brett Tomko and Matt Joyce are back in the Major Leagues, as Tomko has signed with San Diego and Joyce was called back to Detroit to take Magglio Ordonez's place on the roster when Ordonez was placed on the disabled list.

For Tomko, this marks his second stint with the Padres having finished the 2007 season with the club. The 11-year major league veteran had signed with Kansas City for the 2008 season but was designated for assignment on June 12 and then released outright on June. The 1995 NCAA Division II Player of the Year began his career in 1997 with the Cincinnati Reds and takes a 95-99 career record into San Diego.

For Joyce, this is is second appearance with the big club. A member of the Mocs' 2005 NCAA National Championship team, Joyce was first called to the majors on March 12 and played in 18 games with five homers and 10 RBI before being sent back to AAA Toledo.
